What Changes in Conditions Can Be Made?
Your current work permit conditions can be updated if any of the following has changed:
- Work Location: Change where you work.
- Employer: Switch to a new employer.
- Job Role: Adjust the type of work you are allowed to perform.
- Responsibilities & Compensation: Update if your job’s duties or pay changes.
When Can You Apply for a Work Permit Extension?
You're eligible to file for an extension if:
- Your current job is extended.
- You are offered a new job.
- You are offered a position with a new business or company.
- You held a spousal open work permit and your spouse’s status has been updated or extended.
Note: Post-Graduation Work Permits are not extendable, and the application will be rejected.
Steps to Apply for a Work Permit Extension or Change in Conditions
- Prepare Your Documents: Ensure you have access to a scanner or camera, a valid method of payment, and gather all required documents.
- Use the Online Tool: Complete the online questionnaire to receive a personalized document checklist.
- Create and Sign In: Set up your IRCC account and log in.
- Pay the Fees: Pay the application fee, which is a minimum of CAD $155 (excluding any third-party expenses).
- Submit Your Application: Fill out the necessary forms and upload all documents.
- Wait for Approval: Once approved, you will receive your new work permit.
- Apply for a Visa (if necessary): If you plan to travel in and out of Canada, make sure you obtain a visa, as the work permit only authorizes your employment and stay in Canada.
